Trail Maps

ⓘ Updates for the 2023-24 season

This season brings trail changes that are important for all to adhere to:

  1. Beech Trail is now closed and Bunny’s Trail has changes in the field route. It’s crucial that everyone follows all posted signs, otherwise we risk losing access to this entire property.
  2. Due to extreme water, there have been a couple small re-routes to help create a more sustainable and resilient trail.

These changes are detailed in our updated map, available for download below. Thank you for supporting the trails and respecting the landowners who make our trail system possible.

Physical maps

Physical maps are revised, printed, and distributed each season. 8.5×11 versions of the map can be found in trail register boxes along the trails or downloaded below. A weather-resistant, 11×17 version of the map is available locally at Mike’s Store and at BG’s Market in Three Corners, and the Brownsville Butcher & Pantry in West Windsor.

Below are links to two versions of the 2023-24 season map for download. The map-only version includes embedded georeferencing information so it can be loaded into a smartphone application such as Avenza Maps. We recommend using this if you’re interested in seeing exactly where you are on the trails in real time.

The complete version contains both the map and an additional page on our history with detailed information about each trail (length, difficulty, max/average slope, description). Click the links below to download your copy.

Digital maps

Trailforks

You can also find an interactive, digital map of our trails on the Trailforks website and through the Trailforks mobile app, available for iOS or Android. Trailforks is an excellent way to see exactly where you are on the map while on trail and get detailed information about each trail, including elevation profile and more!

Using Trailforks while on trail makes it easy to follow the trail and make knowledgeable choices when you reach an intersection. In the event of an emergency, it will also help you give responders your exact location, the trail name, nearest road crossing, etc.

To find our trails on the Trailforks app, install and open the app on your phone or tablet, load the Vermont region, then search for “Hartland Winter Trails” or zoom in to the Hartland/Upper Valley area.

Notable Trailforks features include:

  • Your current position – If you allow the app access to your device’s “location services,” it will show your position on the map in real time – very handy when out on the trails, even when there’s no cell phone coverage.
  • Zooming and rotating – Just use the usual finger gestures to zoom and rotate the map.
  • Trail information – Click on a trail name and see detailed information about it, including a vertical profile and even a 3D fly-over of the trail.
  • Parking markers – Click and learn the street address and description of the parking area.
  • Information kiosk markers – Locate the on-trail log books.
  • Map layers – Change the base map from the orthophoto to another style – topography, for example.
  • Feedback – Leave feedback about your trail experience or trail condition.

Avenza

Additionally, we recommend checking out Avenza Maps. It is a great mobile application and it’s easy to use. A pointer on the map always shows where you are. While Avenza is a simpler, easier-to-use application, perhaps its biggest feature is being able to load in a georeferenced PDF and track your position in real time.

Similar to Trailforks, Avenza Maps does not require cell phone service to see your location on the map. The free version lets you load one map onto your phone at a time, while the paid version allows many maps to be loaded onto your phone at one time.
