Hartland has always been home for me, though I love to travel too. I grew up next to my grandparents and we were always outside doing adventurous activities, especially in the winter. When I am not skiing, biking or canoeing, I am spending time with family including our three grandchildren.

I have been an active participant in Hartland Winter Trails from the beginning in the early 1970’s. Volunteering and being a part of my community is very important to me.

New England native and Hartland transplant! I enjoy dabbling in all winter sports and love having this trail system right out my back door. Appreciative of the opportunity it’s given me to get to know other trail users, as well as greater Hartland community.

Treasurer

Born and raised in Maine, I moved to the Upper Valley a year and a half ago. Since then, I have had the chance to reconnect with all of my outdoor hobbies, including my favorites, snowshoeing and hiking. Excited to be involved with HWT and have access to an amazing trail network!

Vermont native planting roots in Hartland after nearly a decade in San Francisco. I love to be outside and you can often find me looking for new trails to explore by foot, skis, or bike, and spreading the word about HWT!

Cross-country skiing and racing has been a passion since my days as a high school freshman.  Nordic racing continued through college, then a later stint with biathlon. Favorite outdoor activities also include maintaining our trails, road and mountain biking, and hiking our local mountains. When not outdoors, you may find me at the computer mapping, or doing one of the many other activities that keeps Hartland Winter Trails running, thriving, and planning for the future. I live in the rural hills of Hartland with my partner and furry feline in our new, super-energy-efficient home.

It has been so incredible to move into a community with great access to XC trails right outside our door! Having been enjoying the trails for 4 years I joined the Board in 2022 to help keep these trails accessible for everyone in the area. My partner and I live at Cobb Hill Cohousing and when not out enjoying the trails we are doing lots of other outdoor activities. Looking forward to many more joining our community of trail stewards.

Having lived in Ireland, England, California and now New England my wife and I have always enjoyed the outdoors. Since moving to Harland in 2019 we have become avid snowshoers and enjoy being out on the trails as much as we can. I joined the board as a Member at Large in 2022 to enable me to help keep the trails open and active for many years to come.

Tess Hamilton
Member at Large

Tess grew up skiing out her back door in rural, central New Hampshire and moved to Hartland this past October after living in Colorado for the past 5 years. She learned to ski on groomed trails through the Bill Koche Youth Ski League and then taught that same program when she was in high school racing for Hopkinton High School.

She nordic skied for Bowdoin College and was able to ski in the Czech Republic and Norway. Though she has pursued racing fast, her heart is most in love with this sport and the community it brings on fun backyard trails. She works as an educator, classroom teacher, and runs her own business as a Parent Coach supporting young families to grow and thrive. Tess is thrilled to bring her energy to HWT!
